Meridian Therapy

Meridian therapy is also called Jingluo therapy. It is the general name for all the therapy methods that are based on the concept of Jingluo theory. It clears the energy pathways and balances Yin/Yang energy in order to normalize a person’s health condition.  Meridian therapy normally includes acupuncture therapy, acupressure therapy, moxibustion therapy, cupping therapy etc.

Meridian therapy has been practiced for thousands of years. It started long before the appearance of the master piece “The Yellow Emperor’s Classics of Internal Medicine” which is about 2500 years ago. The practice of the meridian therapy was primitive in the beginning. It becomes more and more developed and sophisticated over the Chinese medical history.

How exactly people discovered the meridians and how and when the meridian therapy originated, no one yet can tell for sure. There are several sayings or guesses such as people saw the meridians when practicing Qi Gong, but there is no concrete evidence for it.

There are different ways of practicing meridian therapy. Acupuncture is to use needles inserting into the acupuncture points to stimulate the Jingluos in order to balance the Yin/Yang energy. Acupressure does the similar thing without using the needles.

Moxibustion therapy is to use a smoking moxa to warm the acupuncture points. Moxa is a stick with a shape looking like a cigar. It is made of dried plant called wormwood or Asiaticwormwood. The smoke and the warmth produced by the moxa can stimulate and unblock the Jingluos and free the energy inside.

Scraping is scratching the skin with massage oil and a piece of thin plank made of cattle horn to get rid of the coldness.

Cupping is to place a vacuumed cup onto the skin to suck the coldness and dampness from the inside of the body.

There are more methods that an experienced therapist can use to balance energy and normalize organ functions.
